Renowned for her captivating and bold performances, Silk Smitha, the iconic actress of Tamil and Telugu cinema, is set to be immortalized once again in an upcoming biopic. Reports swirling in the industry suggest that Australian actress Chandrika Ravi is poised to step into Silk Smitha’s shoes in this highly anticipated film, directed by Jayaram.

Chandrika Ravi, known for her roles in films like ‘Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuththu’ and her recent appearance in the Telugu action drama ‘Veera Simha Reddy,’ is set to take on this challenging role. With her background in acting, modelling, and dance, Chandrika’s casting has stirred excitement among cinephiles.

This biopic comes as another homage to Silk Smitha, following director Milan Luthria’s acclaimed movie ‘The Dirty Picture.’ Released on December 2, 2011, on Silk Smitha’s birth anniversary, ‘The Dirty Picture’ featured Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi, Naseeruddin Shah, and Tusshar Kapoor, chronicling aspects of her eventful life journey. The film’s success at the box office underscored Silk Smitha’s enduring legacy in Indian cinema.

Silk Smitha, originally named Vijayalakshmi Vadlapati, made an impactful entry into the film industry with her breakthrough role as Silk in the 1979 Tamil film ‘Vandichakkaram.’ With an illustrious career spanning over 450 films in 18 years, she carved her niche as the “Queen of Sensuality.”

However, her tragic demise on September 23, 1996, shocked the industry and fans alike. Silk Smitha was found hanging in her home, and investigations revealed a fatal level of alcohol consumption as the cause of her death. Reports indicated she had spoken to a friend just a day before her tragic suicide.

The forthcoming biopic promises to shed light on the enigmatic persona of Silk Smitha, honoring her contributions to cinema and recounting the highs and lows of her remarkable life, captivating audiences once again with her enduring allure.
