Veteran actress Amala Akkineni, who was last seen in the Hindi film Tumse Na Ho Payega, has been keeping a relatively low profile in recent years. But with both her sons—Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni—now married, she’s found herself in a new and rather special role: that of a mother-in-law.
In a candid chat with YouTube channel Aval Vikatan, Amala shared heartfelt insights into her warm relationship with her daughters-in-law, Sobhita Dhulipala and Zainab Ravdjee.
“I have wonderful daughters-in-law. They’re delightful, and with them, I have my own little girls’ circle,” she said with a smile. “They’re very busy, which I actually love. It’s great to see young people living such exciting lives. Whenever we do get time together, we make the most of it. I’m not a needy mother-in-law, nor am I a needy wife.”
Amala also reflected on her parenting style and the bond she shares with her sons. “They’ve grown up to be amazing men,” she added. “They have great respect for Nag sir, who is very affectionate towards them. As for me, I’ve always been a no-nonsense parent.”
For those unfamiliar with the family’s background, Nagarjuna Akkineni was first married to Lakshmi Daggubati in 1984. The couple parted ways in 1990 but continued to co-parent their son Naga Chaitanya. Nagarjuna then married Amala in 1992, and together they have a son, Akhil Akkineni.
Naga Chaitanya tied the knot with actress Sobhita Dhulipala in a private ceremony in Hyderabad in 2024. The intimate affair saw the presence of several Telugu film industry stars who came together to celebrate the couple’s big day.
Not long after, Akhil Akkineni married Zainab Ravdjee in 2025. Zainab, a Mumbai-based artist and entrepreneur, hails from a prominent business family.
While she’s chosen to stay away from the spotlight for the most part, Amala was last seen in the Hindi-language comedy-drama Tumse Na Ho Payega. Directed by Abhishek Sinha and penned by Nitesh Tiwari, the film featured Ishwak Singh, Mahima Makwana and Gaurav Pandey in lead roles.
Released directly on JioHotstar on 29 September 2023, the film received a mixed-to-positive response from both critics and audiences.
With her family entering new chapters, Amala Akkineni seems to be embracing her evolving role with warmth, grace and a touch of her signature poise.
