Coolie Day 3 India Box Office: Rajinikanth’s Crime Drama Weekend Total Nears Rs 225 Crore but Growth Slows

Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring superstar Rajinikanth, had another strong day at the India box office on its third day, grossing an estimated Rs 47.5 crore. While these numbers are impressive on their own, there’s growing concern over the slowing trend after a blockbuster opening.

The film opened with a massive Rs 75.5 crore on day one and followed it up with Rs 63.5 crore on day two, boosted by the Independence Day holiday. The cumulative India total after three days stands at approximately Rs 186.5 crore. Based on current trends, Sunday’s collections are expected to dip further to around Rs 40 crore, which would bring the first weekend’s total to just over Rs 225 crore.

Here’s the day-wise India gross collection summary for Coolie:

Day India Gross Collections
1 Rs 75.5 crore
2 Rs 63.5 crore
3 Rs 47.5 crore
Total Rs 186.5 crore

While the Rs 47.5 crore on day 3 is a solid figure, industry experts believe it should have been closer to Rs 60 crore given the film’s strong start. The Tamil version’s collections are seeing a sharp decline, with the Hindi and Telugu versions helping to sustain the overall numbers to some extent. However, after Sunday, even these versions are likely to experience significant drops.

The underperformance in the Tamil Nadu market will likely be a major talking point about this Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial. Early indicators suggest Coolie may finish lower than Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly in the Tamil market.

Global Outlook:

Coolie is projected to cross the Rs 500 crore mark worldwide, depending heavily on its hold in the coming weeks. The global weekend collections are estimated around Rs 375 crore. Adding less than Rs 125 crore after that could reflect negatively on its long-term performance. Regardless, the film will still rank among the top 5 highest-grossing Kollywood films worldwide, proving Rajinikanth’s enduring box office appeal. Remarkably, he will have three films in this top 5 list, each directed by different filmmakers.
