Anupama Parameswaran, known for her roles in romantic and dramatic films, recently opened up about her experience portraying the bold character Lily in the hit Telugu film Tillu Square. While the movie, which released on March 29, 2024, became a box-office hit, the actress admitted that taking on this role was far from easy for her.

In a candid conversation with Idlebrain, Anupama revealed that stepping into Lily’s shoes was a significant departure from her usual roles and it left her feeling quite uneasy. “If someone offers me a character like Lily now, I would decline,” she confessed. “I wasn’t comfortable doing that character. Not because the team wasn’t great—everything was wonderful—but I just wasn’t comfortable in my own skin while playing that role.” She shared that the experience left her feeling “bad, disappointed, and underconfident,” and that it wasn’t a smooth journey.

Despite the challenges, Anupama acknowledged that the character pushed her out of her comfort zone, something she was initially hesitant to do. “It took me a long time to say yes to the film,” she admitted. “The role was so different from who I am, and I was unsure about it. I don’t usually pay much attention to my look or styling, but this role made me conscious of every detail.”

However, the actress expressed pride in the outcome, especially after receiving positive feedback from the audience. “When people appreciated my performance, I felt proud of myself,” she said. “Even though I was uncomfortable and underconfident, I still managed to convince the audience that I was confident. I made them believe I was a boss lady who didn’t care about what others thought…and that’s a great success.”

Anupama’s bold, glamorous portrayal of Lily drew mixed reactions. While some praised her for stepping out of her comfort zone, others were more critical of her transformation. Nevertheless, the film’s commercial success and the positive reactions from fans helped soften the initial backlash.

Despite the early criticism, Anupama’s role in Tillu Square not only resonated with viewers but also proved her versatility as an actress.
