Director Nitesh Tiwari‘s much-anticipated film based on the epic Ramayan, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, has reportedly been put on hold indefinitely, according to an ETimes report. The reasons behind this decision have not been disclosed yet. It is speculated that the director is currently occupied with his ongoing project “Bawaal,” featuring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles. After completing “Bawaal,” Nitesh is said to be focusing on another undisclosed project. However, the director has not responded to these rumors yet.

Earlier reports had revealed that Nitesh Tiwari had roped in Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi to portray the iconic roles of Ram and Sita, respectively, in his Ramayan adaptation. There were also speculations that actors such as Mahesh Babu, Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and Yash were approached for various roles in the film, but no official updates were provided by the team. It was rumoured that Hrithik Roshan was being considered for the role of Ravana.

A close friend of Hrithik Roshan stated, “Hrithik would have loved to play Ravana. Years ago, his former father-in-law Sanjay Khan had offered him a chance to play Rama in a big-screen version of the Ramayana that Mr Khan was planning. That didn’t happen. Now, Hrithik has opted out of the chance to play Raavan, as he had other commitments. Hrithik no longer wants to do one project every two years. He would rather do two projects every year.”

The news of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan adaptation being put on hold comes just ten days before the release of another highly anticipated Ramayan-inspired film, “Adipurush.” Directed by Om Raut, “Adipurush” features Prabhas as Raghav, Kriti Sanon as Janaki, Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh, Sunny Singh as Lakshmana, and Devdatta Nage as Bajrang. The film is scheduled to hit the screens in 3D on June 16, 2023.

Fans will now have to wait for further updates from Nitesh Tiwari regarding the status of his Ramayan film and the casting decisions that had generated significant interest among movie enthusiasts.
