Innocent Yet Wise… Pooja Hegde Opens Up About Her Role as ‘Rukmini’ in ‘Retro’

Mumbai, 1 May—Actress Pooja Hegde stars opposite Suriya in the newly released action-romance film, *Retro*, which hits cinemas this Thursday. In the film, Pooja plays the character Rukmini, a role she describes as “innocent yet intelligent.”

 Taking to Instagram, the actress shared stills from the film and provided her followers with insights into her character’s personality. She wrote, “Rukmini is a pure soul. She’s innocent but wise, always stands by her loved ones, and walks with them through every step. She gets angry but remains kind-hearted, managing to stay positive even in the toughest of times.”

Reflecting on her experience, Pooja added, “Becoming ‘Rukku’ has been one of the most beautiful journeys of my career. I call her a piece of my heart. From today, she belongs to you as much as she does to me. It’s Retro time.”

The photos she shared offered glimpses of Rukmini, exuding a vintage charm. Pooja also posted pictures of herself wearing a 70-year-old Kanjeevaram saree as part of the film’s promotions. In the caption, she wrote, “A gorgeous saree from the old trunk… It reminds me of my lovely Ajji (grandmother), who would spend her day draped in Kanjeevaram, preparing for weddings amidst the fresh scent of mallige (jasmine) and the earthy aroma of Mangalorean soil after the first rains… there’s beauty in such simple things. That’s Retro.”

The photos showcase the actress in a green and purple saree, her hair adorned with jasmine flowers and a bindi on her forehead, completing the timeless look.

*Retro*, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, stars Suriya and Pooja Hegde in lead roles. Suriya portrays a gangster, while Hegde plays his love interest. The film has received widespread praise on social media for its gripping narrative and striking visuals.
