The Adah Sharma-starrer ‘The Kerala Story‘ has witnessed a phenomenal opening weekend at the Indian box office, despite being embroiled in political controversy. The film, directed by Sudipto Sen, managed to collect double-digit figures on both Saturday and Sunday, following its Rs 8.03 crore nett opening on Friday. According to trade reports from sacnilk, the three-day total for the film stands at around Rs 35.25 crore nett in India.

This impressive collection is noteworthy, especially considering that ‘The Kerala Story’ faced tough competition from the much-anticipated Marvel superhero film, ‘Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3’, starring Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana. Although the superhero flick garnered a decent weekend collection of Rs. 24 crore nett across all versions, it couldn’t overshadow the success of ‘The Kerala Story’.

Here is the day-wise box office business of ‘The Kerala Story’ after the first weekend:

  • Friday: Rs 8.03 crore
  • Saturday: Rs 11.22 crore
  • Sunday: Rs 16.50 crore (early estimate)
  • Total: Rs 35.75 crore

With these numbers, ‘The Kerala Story’ has secured the fourth biggest Bollywood opening of the year. The film, produced by Vipul Amritlal Shah, who is also credited as the creative director, seems to have benefited from the audience’s curiosity, despite receiving negative reviews and limited promotions. However, the film’s true test will begin on Monday, the first weekday, which will provide a fair assessment of its performance in the long run.

Both ‘The Kerala Story’ and ‘Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3’ will enjoy a week of uninterrupted screening at the box office in India until a wave of new releases hits the screens this weekend. Movies like Vidyut Jammwal’s ‘IB71’, Nushrratt Bharuccha’s ‘Chhatrapati’, and Gauri Pradhan’s ‘A Winter Tale At Shimla’ are set to compete for attention, alongside other regional releases. It will be interesting to observe how ‘The Kashmir Files’ utilizes the curiosity surrounding it to sustain its momentum. Stay tuned to this space for the latest updates on the box office performance.

Note: The box office figures mentioned above are based on initial estimates and may be subject to change as official numbers are released.
