“West is ready to accept Ram Charan and Jr NTR in more avatars than just RRR,” says SS Rajamouli

SS Rajamouli’s RRR has been creating waves in the US and how! The film has become a cult in the west with the local population going crazy for it as much as the Indians back home. This was proved even further when the film’s Imax screening at the TLC Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles took place earlier this month. Apart from the standing ovation, the screening also saw the members from the audience dancing to the tune of the song ‘Naatu Naatu.’

Bewildered by the reception the film got, Rajamouli told Los Angeles Times, “When I started hearing the roaring laughter and whistles, the shouting, the screaming, people getting up, standing up, showing their love and affection, dancing in front of the stage — my God. I never, ever would have expected it in my wildest dreams.”

The filmmaker also believes that along with RRR, the American audience has also accepted the film’s two leading heroes Ram Charan and Jr NTR as their own. “I have seen so many people react to these two stars and they’re saying, Ram Charan is so handsome, Tarak [Jr NTR] has such expressive eyes,” added Rajamouli. “They never, ever say ‘this Indian star.’ That says, I think, the western audiences are ready to receive them in many, many more avatars than just RRR.”

RRR had released in March this year. The film became a runaway blockbuster in no time.
