Priyanka Chopra Jonas‘ latest action-packed spy thriller series, Citadel, on Amazon Prime Video, is a testament to her talent and the representation of South Asians in Hollywood. Priyanka, a ‘brown’ actor, has been at the forefront of promoting inclusivity in the West since her Hollywood debut in 2015 with Quantico. Citadel showcases Priyanka as a fearless, sexy, and badass spy who can take down the bad guys with ease, never letting her sheen fade away. She carries the show’s glamour quotient on her shoulders, taking the action sequences a notch higher, thanks to the stunt team that worked on Avengers and James Bond films.

Priyanka’s character Nadia Sinh and Richard Madden’s Mason Kane are top agents with Citadel, an organization dedicated to providing safety and security to everyone. The show’s plot revolves around Manticore, a syndicate formed by the wealthiest families in the world and Citadel’s nemesis, attacking them on a train. Nadia and Mason have their memories erased and start new lives in Oregon and Spain, respectively, only to be brought back into the world of espionage eight years later. The show’s narrative may be predictable, but the exceptional action sequences and cinematography make up for it.

Priyanka impresses with her nuanced performance, showcasing Nadia’s vulnerability and emotionality amidst her resolution and unyielding grit. She shares a simmering and volatile sexual tension with Richard’s Mason, making their chemistry sizzling and palpable, and the makers want the audience to root for them against all odds.

Citadel showcases Priyanka as a trailblazer for South Asian representation in Hollywood, taking the glamour quotient and action sequences to another level. The show may have predictable elements, but the exceptional action sequences, cinematography, and nuanced performances make it worth watching.
