Tovino Thomas confirms Minal Murrali 2 release only in theatres

Tovino Thomas is one of the most popular Malayalam actor. The actor will return in Minnal Murali second instalment. The first part, which is an action comedy had released on Netflix and not theatres due to restrictions. The actor recently talked about Minnal Murali 2.

Tovino Thomas told Bollywood Hungama “We will release Minnal Murali 2 only in theaters. After it releases in the theaters, I want Netflix to acquire its OTT rights,” He further added the challenges they faced to due COVID-19 and restrictions during the pandemic.

He further added “Netflix has played a very big part in Minnal Murali’s promotions. At that point of time, that was the best option we had – to release it in OTT; because we had 50 percent occupancy in theatres and so many restrictions. And the kind of promotions Netflix did that was necessary. And for Malayalam industry, it’s not very easy to do such promotions. It will cost moderately big budget movies’ budget to promote a movie like that. So whatever Netflix did was definitely an add on to the content we made. So, we are very thankful to Netflix and very thankful to people who worked for that movie,”. He also said, “Having said that, when the second part (Minnal Murali 2) releases, I want it to be released in theaters only,”.

For the unversed, Minnal Murali was directed by Basil Joseph and it featured Femina George as the leading lady and Guru Somasundaram as the antagonist. Tovino Thomas also won the Best Actor award at SIIMA 2022 for his performance in the popular film.
