South Indian cinema has witnessed the rise of numerous superstars who have garnered a massive fanbase across the country. From Ram Charan and Junior NTR to Prabhas, these actors have captivated audiences with their charm and stellar performances. Established veterans like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have also been ruling the industry for decades. However, today we shed light on a remarkable achievement by a South star that even the likes of Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan were unable to surpass. We are referring to none other than the legendary 63-year-old actor, Mohanlal, who has accomplished the feat of starring in around 400 films throughout his illustrious career.

Mohanlal is not just an actor but a versatile artist involved in various aspects of filmmaking, including producing, playback singing, directing, and film distribution. While he primarily works in Malayalam cinema, he has also left his mark in Tamil, Hindi, and Kannada films.

Making his debut with the Malayalam film “Thiranottam” in 1978 at the age of 18, Mohanlal faced challenges as the movie was embroiled in censorship issues and did not release until 25 years later. However, he gained recognition with his appearance in the 1980 romantic movie “Manjil Virinja Pookkal,” where he portrayed an antagonist. He continued to impress with his villainous roles for several years until the mid-80s when he emerged as one of the leading stars in the industry.

His film “Vishwanath” garnered five National Awards, including two for Best Actor, a Special Jury Mention, and a Special Jury Award for acting, solidifying his position as a powerhouse performer. Mohanlal has also been honoured with nine Kerala State Film Awards, Filmfare Awards South, and numerous other accolades for his exceptional contributions to cinema. In 2019, he was bestowed with the prestigious Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India. Notably, Mohanlal became the first actor in the country to receive the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army in 2009.

Mohanlal’s highly anticipated upcoming project is “Jailer,” where he will share the screen with Rajinikanth. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the Tamil-language action-comedy drama is reportedly set to release on August 11, generating immense excitement among fans of both actors.

Mohanlal’s monumental achievement of starring in 400 films highlights his incredible dedication, talent, and enduring appeal as a mega star in the realm of South Indian cinema.
