Sandalwood star Rishab Shetty has achieved a new milestone of success with his latest release, Kantara. The 2022 film has proven to be a resounding triumph both commercially and critically. The movie’s unique concept, which delves into a special force that transcends logic, has captivated audiences. Kantara is an edge-of-the-seat drama that explores the themes of culture, religion, and tradition.

While many movie enthusiasts have claimed to watch the film multiple times, a significant portion of the audience remains unaware of the meaning behind the title Kantara. Surprisingly, approximately 90% of fans are unfamiliar with the definition of the film’s title. Kantara refers to a mysterious forest, also known as the Mayavi Jungle, where humans merge with nature and divine power.

Kantara revolves around the struggles of villagers fighting to protect their land. The protagonist Shiva, portrayed by Rishab Shetty, ventures into the forest to hunt animals but encounters the presence of Varaha Dev, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This encounter unsettles Shiva, setting the stage for an enthralling narrative.

The climax of the film has sparked fervent discussions among cinephiles. A supernatural power possesses Shiva’s body, seeking revenge against a greedy landlord. The movie also provides a glimpse into the world of Daiva Panjurali, the guardian of the land. Daiva Panjurali holds great significance in Kannada culture, and their presence is celebrated through the traditional dance form known as Bhoot Kola, where the dancer embodies the god Panjurali.

About Kantara

Conceptualized and helmed by Rishabh Shetty, Kantara features the multi-talented actor and director in the lead role. Produced by Vijay Kiragandur under the banner of Hombale Films, the movie stars Sapthami Gowda as Leela, Kishore as Muralidhar (Deputy Range Forest Officer), Achyuth Kumar as Devendra Suttooru, Pramod Shetty as Sudhakara, Prakash Thuminad as Raampa, and Manasi Sudhir as Kamala, Shiva’s mother, among others.

Kantara hit the cinema halls on September 30, 2022, and has reportedly grossed approximately Rs 450 crores at the box office, making it a commercial success.

In an exciting development, the filmmakers are currently working on a prequel to the gripping drama, aptly titled Kantara 2, which is set to further unravel the enigmatic storyline that has captivated audiences.
