Dasara grosses ₹38 crore worldwide on Day 1

South actor Nani has been quite a buzz recently. He was seen promoting his first pan-India release Dasara. Dasara was released yesterday to a good start, the movie grossed ₹38 crore worldwide, this is the highest day-one grosser for a Nani starrer and also one of the biggest opening movies in India this year. It is directed by debutant Odela Srikanth. The movie is close to $1 Million mark on day-one in the USA, including premieres. The film is expected to have a long run with great box office numbers.

The movie showcases ugly sides of politics and revenge. Nani plays the role of Dharani. Dasara also stars Keerthy Suresh, Shine Tom Chacko and Dheekshith Shetty in key roles. It was originally shot in Telugu, Dasara released in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. It has is a familiar story of revenge and friendship.

Earlier, in a interview with Hindustan Times, Nani spoke about the current pan-Indian wave. He said that releasing a film in multiple languages doesn’t make it a pan-Indian project. “Dasara is a Telugu film which we felt will appeal to audiences across languages. Hence, we decided to release it in multiple languages. Dasara is set in a world that’ll be alien to Telugu as well as Hindi audiences. That’s what makes this film unique. A film doesn’t become pan-Indian just by being released in five languages,”
