South superstar Akhil Akkineni‘s latest venture, the action-packed spy thriller “Agent,” failed to make a mark at the box office, leaving fans and critics disappointed. Despite the immense buzz surrounding the film, it received negative reviews from the initial shows, resulting in a significant impact on its overall collection.

Released on April 28, “Agent” witnessed a pre-release business of Rs. 36.20 crore in the Telugu states. Unfortunately, the movie grossed only Rs. 6.90 crores, making it one of the biggest disasters in Akhil Akkineni’s career. With a staggering loss of approximately Rs. 30 crores, the film struggled to meet audience expectations.

Let’s take a look at the box office performances of Akhil Akkineni‘s previous releases to gain further insights into his career trajectory.

In 2021, Akhil Akkineni starred in the laughter ride “Most Eligible Bachelor” alongside Pooja Hegde. The film, directed by Bommarillu Bhaskar and produced under the banner of Geetha Arts, marked a turning point for the actor as it became his first successful venture as the lead. With a pre-release business of Rs. 18.50 crore, the movie collected a total of Rs. 24.14 crore, resulting in a profit of Rs. 5.64 crore.

Mr Majnu:

Under the direction of Venky Atluri, “Mr Majnu” failed to meet expectations at the box office. The film, starring Akhil Akkineni, generated a total revenue of Rs. 22.05 crore, resulting in a disappointing loss of approximately Rs. 10 crore.

Hello:

Directed by Vikram Kumar and released on December 22, 2017, “Hello” also faced a disappointing fate. Despite the presence of talented actors like Kalyani Priyadarshan, Jagapati Babu, and Ramya Krishna, the film incurred a loss of around Rs. 12 crores.

Akhil:

Akhil Akkineni’s debut film, the 2015 action fantasy drama “Akhil,” also encountered a setback at the box office, resulting in a loss of Rs. 22.2 crores.

Following the underwhelming box office performance of “Agent,” producer Anil Sunkara expressed his apologies for the film’s outcome, acknowledging the disappointment it caused among audiences.

Despite the setback, Akhil Akkineni continues to be a prominent figure in the South Indian film industry, and fans eagerly anticipate his future projects in hopes of witnessing his talent shine once again.
