Thalapathy Vijay starrer Varisu will be released during the auspicious occasion of Pongal, on January 11. The film is bilingual and its Telugu version Vaarasudu was supposed to be released simultaneously with the Tamil film. However, the special occasion of Makar Sankranti which coincides with Pongal will also see two other major releases which include the Chiranjeevi, Ravi Teja starrer Waltair Veerayya (January 13), and Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer Veera Simha Reddy (January 12). Considering the clash of Vaarasudu with the other releases, producer Dil Raju has decided to shift the release date of the Telugu version to three days later, on January 14.

Talking about the change of release date during a recent press meet of Varisu, producer Dil Raju said, “We are releasing Vaarasudu on January 14. The Tamil version will release worldwide on January 11. The decision for the release of Vaarasudu was taken after having discussions with industry bigwigs. Although the Telugu version will be released a few days later, I have confidence in the film’s success. There will be no problem when we release a movie that is going to be a super hit.”

He went on to add, “We also have the belief that the audience will wait for good cinema. The main reason to release our film on January 14 is we have Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy on January 12, and on the 13, Waltair Veerayya’s release. My main intentions are these movies should release first and our big Telugu stars should get theatres everywhere.”

Interestingly, the Tamil version of Varisu too will face a clash in the theatres with yet another major Tamil release. The Ajith Kumar, Manju Warrier starrer heist-action drama Thunivu too is expected to release on the same date, on January 11. Coming to Varisu, the film features Rashmika Mandanna, Sarath Kumar, and Prakash Raj, among others, and is directed by Vamshi Paidipally.
