Yashoda, featuring Samantha Ruth Prabhu in a leading role, has landed in legal trouble over a defamation case for using the name of a hospital. Now, weeks after the release of the film, as it gears up to make its OTT debut, the film has faced legal resistance. It seems that defamation charges have been filed against the makers and the civil court will be hearing the case. The film released on November 11 and it seems that its OTT premiere was scheduled on December 19 but it seems unlikely that the film will be able to maintain the date.

A certain Dr. Mohan Kumar has alleged that the film has misused the name of the hospital named Eva IVF Hospital in the film. He has filed charges against the producers of Yashoda for ‘damaging the reputation of the hospital’. As per reports, the court has sought reply from the makers regarding the case.

For the unversed, the film features Samantha as a surrogate who decides to take up the offer for raising money for her sister’s surgery. Playing the titular role of a strong-headed woman, Samantha’s character sets out an investigation when she realizes that she is a part of an illegal commercial surrogacy that has been taking place in a hospital named EVA. Owing to the same, the doctors have demanded an explanation from the makers of misusing their name.

Coming to the film, Yashoda hit the big screens in five different languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi. Speaking about her role in Yashoda and how much she associated with it, Samantha had revealed to Bollywood Hungama, “I think I resonate a lot with Yashoda’s grit and determination to overcome obstacles in her life. I think I too am stubborn like her in real life. Yashoda is someone who came from a humble background, with big dreams and so am I.”

The film also marked the Hindi debut of Samantha Ruth Prabhu and was directed by Hari Shankar and Harish Narayanan.
