Filmmaker SS Rajamouli Reveals Ambitious Plans for a 10-Part Film Series on Mahabharata

Renowned filmmaker SS Rajamouli, known for his blockbuster film RRR, recently shared his aspirations for a monumental project: a film series based on the Indian epic Mahabharata. In an interview, Rajamouli expressed his desire to create a 10-part movie series revolving around the timeless tale.

Reflecting on the magnitude of the project, Rajamouli acknowledged the extensive research required, stating, “If I get to the point of making Mahabharata, it would take me a year just to read the versions of Mahabharata that are available in the country. At present, I can only assume that it would be a 10-part film.” The acclaimed director shared his unwavering commitment to his dream, mentioning that each of his prior films contributes to his preparation for the grand undertaking.

This is not the first time Rajamouli has expressed his intention to bring Mahabharata to the silver screen. In previous statements, he emphasized his unique approach to the epic, promising that his interpretation would deviate from conventional portrayals. Rajamouli’s vision includes enhancing the characters and exploring deeper inter-relationships among them. He aims to captivate audiences with a fresh perspective while maintaining the core essence of the Mahabharata’s narrative.

In addition to his Mahabharata ambitions, recent reports suggest that Rajamouli is in the scripting stage for his next big-budget film, which will reportedly draw inspiration from the Indian epic Ramayana. It has been speculated that popular actor Mahesh Babu will collaborate with Rajamouli for this project, with rumors suggesting that Babu’s character will be inspired by Lord Hanuman. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding this development.

As fans eagerly await further updates on both projects, Rajamouli’s creative vision continues to enthrall audiences and reinforce his reputation as a visionary filmmaker. With his relentless pursuit of ambitious storytelling, Rajamouli is poised to leave an indelible mark on Indian cinema, reimagining beloved epics for contemporary audiences.
