In September 2023, acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli unveiled the announcement video for Made In India, a biopic inspired by the life of Dadasaheb Phalke, the pioneer widely regarded as the ‘Father of Indian Cinema.’ The film is being produced by Varun Gupta (Max Studios) and SS Karthikeya (Showing Business) and is envisioned as a grand Pan-India release. Since the announcement, the trio—Rajamouli, Karthikeya, and Gupta—have been deeply involved in developing the script, which has now been finalized.
According to sources close to the project, the team recently narrated the script to Jr NTR, who was reportedly moved by the narrative and promptly gave his verbal approval. “NTR Jr was captivated by the lesser-known aspects of Dadasaheb Phalke’s journey. The script delves into the origins and evolution of Indian cinema, and NTR was impressed with its depth and detailing. He’s thrilled about portraying such an iconic figure on screen,” the source revealed.
When I first heard the narration, it moved me emotionally like nothing else.
Making a biopic is tough in itself, but conceiving one about the FATHER OF INDIAN CINEMA is even more challenging. Our boys are ready and up for it..:)

The source further shared that while Jr NTR has agreed in principle, formal agreements and paperwork are still pending. “He shares a deep sense of respect for SS Rajamouli, as well as for SS Karthikeya and Varun Gupta. The narration led to an engaging discussion around the screenplay, narrative treatment, and cinematic approach,” the insider added.
Currently, Jr NTR is filming his next project with director Prashanth Neel, after which he will move on to a film helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar. Made In India is expected to mark a refreshing shift for the actor, allowing him to explore a genre far removed from his recent action-heavy roles. Meanwhile, Jr NTR is also gearing up for the release of War 2, slated for the Independence Day weekend.
