Controversial Line in “The Family Star” Ignites Online Outrage

Parasuram Petla’s latest film, “The Family Star,” faced criticism upon its release on an OTT platform. The controversy centred around a contentious line delivered by Vijay Deverakonda’s character, Govardhan.

After receiving a lukewarm response in theatres on April 5, the film gained renewed attention when it was made available on Prime Video on April 26. Viewers quickly expressed their disapproval, targeting both Deverakonda and Petla for a scene in which Govardhan confronts a goon played by Ravi Babu. The goon had made advances towards Govardhan’s sister-in-law in exchange for money owed by her husband.
During a speech on women’s respect, Govardhan veers into a veiled threat directed at the women in the goon’s family, which left both the antagonist and the audience taken aback. The scene’s execution drew sharp criticism online, with viewers expressing disappointment in Deverakonda for delivering the line and Petla for scripting it.
