In a significant milestone marking his illustrious journey in the film industry, actor Vijay Sethupathi unveiled the first look of his 50th film, ‘Maharaja’, amidst much fanfare in Chennai on Sunday. Directed by the talented Nithilan, the film promises to be a commercial success, a sentiment echoed by Sethupathi during the launch event.
The first look poster paints a gripping picture, featuring Sethupathi in a blood-soaked shirt and trousers, seated in a police station with a sickle in hand, portraying a character who seems to have endured a brutal altercation, evident from his chopped left ear. The intense imagery hints at a gritty narrative that is set to captivate audiences.
An emotional Sethupathi took to the stage to express his gratitude and reflect on his journey thus far. Overwhelmed by the milestone, he acknowledged the role of praise and criticism in shaping his career, emphasizing the growth, experience, and wisdom he has garnered over the years. He extended heartfelt thanks to the directors and artists who contributed to his enriching experiences in the industry.
Recounting a pivotal moment in his career, Sethupathi reminisced about the time he exchanged contact details with Aruldas Annan post the dubbing of ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’. A series of missed calls later led to an unexpected opportunity to work with director Seenu Ramasamy, a collaboration that played a significant role in propelling him to the stage he has reached today. Expressing deep gratitude, Sethupathi said, “There are two reasons why I am here today. Thank you very much, Aruldas. Thank you, Seenu sir. Thank you for this moment.”
Speaking about ‘Maharaja’, Sethupathi exuded confidence in the film’s commercial prospects, praising the performances of the cast including Natti Sir, Aruldas Anne, Singambuli Anne, Abhirami, and Mamata. He particularly mentioned his admiration for Abhirami, recalling her performance in ‘Virumandi’. Sethupathi affirmed, “Maharaja will not only be a talk of the town but also a commercial success. Nithilan has crafted the script with a vision to bring double or triple profits for the producer, promising a lucrative venture.”
