In a candid interview, esteemed actor Vijay Sethupathi expressed disappointment over the non-selection of his acclaimed film “Super Deluxe” for India’s official entry to the Oscars. Despite earning numerous national and international accolades, including the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as a transgender woman in the movie, Sethupathi revealed his dismay when “Gully Boy” was chosen as India’s entry.
During promotions for his upcoming Bollywood film “Merry Christmas” at an event hosted by Bollywood Hungama, the actor-producer candidly shared his sentiments, admitting to feeling shattered by the decision. He clarified that his disappointment wasn’t solely due to his involvement in “Super Deluxe” but rather stemmed from the film itself being bypassed for reasons he chose not to disclose, attributing it to political factors.
“Super Deluxe,” directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja, is a 2019 Tamil-language film featuring Fahadh Faasil, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Ramya Krishnan. The narrative intertwines four distinct stories unfolding on a single day. The film garnered significant acclaim, securing 19 wins out of 33 nominations, including recognitions at the Critics’ Choice Film Awards and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
Vijay Sethupathi’s upcoming ventures include the eagerly awaited “Merry Christmas,” where he stars alongside Katrina Kaif, marking his continued foray into Bollywood after his role as an antagonist in Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan.”
Despite the disappointment of “Super Deluxe” missing out on the Oscars, Sethupathi remains committed to diverse and compelling roles, continuing to make his mark in both Tamil and Hindi cinema.
