Rakul Preet Singh speaks on OTT vs theatre; says, ‘pressure is still on to get those numbers’

Actor Rakul Preet Singh, who is currently being praised for Cuttputlli, shared her piece of mind on OTT vs Big screen releases. While talking about the box office pressure, Rakul said, “It’s a mixed emotion. You live for the big screen. A few years back no actor would have thought that a film would release on OTT. So that was not our mind space, and slowly we sort of got warmed up to it and saw films doing very well on OTT. Somewhere, you still want your film to come on the big screen”.

Supporting her views, the De De Pyaar De actor further asserted, “but we do understand that there are certain genres that now the big screen limits itself to and Cuttputlli per se was from the beginning being a thriller, a Disney+ Hotstar film”. She then added, “the box office pressure reduces but then the pressure as an actor is still there, because I’m not getting those numbers. For me, the thing is – how the reviews will be, how the film would be perceived and how will people like my performance, which is irrespective of whether it’s coming in theatres or in OTT.”

The Shimla Mirch actor concluded by saying, “it’s the same”. Later, when asked to give a brief about Cuttputtli, Rakul explained, “I think a family can enjoy (it). It’s got certain things, which will shake you up. But it is an Indian thriller. It’s not a film taken from the west”.
