“Ravanasura” Movie Review: Ravi Teja Steals the Show in an Underwhelming Thriller Attempt

Sudhir Varma’s “Ravanasura” movie begins as a typical commercial drama and tries to evolve into a thriller, but fails to deliver on both fronts. The director gets bogged down in unnecessary details and rushes through important plot points, leaving the film in disarray. However, the movie’s saving grace is Ravi Teja’s performance as Junior lawyer Ravindra, who manages to elevate the otherwise weak script.
The story follows Ravindra, who is not taken seriously by anyone and is considered a buffoon. Despite his shortcomings, he keeps his job working under his ex-crush Kanaka Mahalakshmi. One day, a girl named Harika enters his life and office, seeking his help in proving her father’s innocence in a murder case. The case leads to the involvement of several other characters, including police officers Ruhana, Saket, Janu, and others.
The movie starts with a few entertaining songs and dances but picks up when the story takes a turn. The movie’s main problem lies in its rushed and awkward scenes, leaving the audience wanting to know more but not necessarily wanting to see more. The second half of the film follows the same pattern until a predictable flashback, leaving the audience emotionally disconnected. The attempt to justify the film’s title with the Rama-Sita-Ravanasura angle falls short and seems forced.
Ravi Teja’s portrayal of Ravindra is impressive, particularly when his character’s darker side is revealed. However, the rest of the cast is wasted in their roles, and the writing lacks direction. The movie’s background score adds to the proceedings, but the songs are a hindrance, and the cinematography and editing are good but not exceptional.
