In a recent interview hosted by Anupama Chopra for Film Companion, directors Vetrimaaran, Karan Johar, Karthik Subbaraj, Konkana Sen Sharma, and Nelson Dilipkumar engaged in a candid discussion, unveiling intriguing details about filmmaking processes and budget management.

Director Vetrimaaran, known for his work on ‘Viduthalai Part 1,’ disclosed a surprising revelation regarding the film’s budget evolution. Originally slated at a modest Rs 4.5 crores, the production costs soared exponentially to a staggering Rs 65 crores by completion. His peers, including Karan Johar and Konkana Sen, were astounded by this significant escalation.

When questioned about his management of the budget, Vetrimaaran humorously confessed, “I didn’t have any clue to what I was doing. I was just shooting.” This casual approach left everyone amused, with Karthik Subbaraj and Nelson Dilipkumar responding with smiles to his nonchalant statement.

‘Viduthalai Part 1,’ a period crime thriller, adapted from B Jeyamohan’s short story ‘Thunaivan,’ garnered critical acclaim and box office success. The ensemble cast, including Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, and Ilavarasu, contributed to its success. Excitement mounts as the makers have announced the sequel, ‘Viduthalai Part 2,’ promising a deeper exploration of Vijay Sethupathi’s character, with Manju Warrier rumoured to join the cast as his love interest, reuniting with Vetrimaaran after ‘Asuran.’

Looking ahead, speculations hint at Vetrimaaran’s upcoming project, ‘Vaadivaasal,’ featuring Suriya post the release of ‘Viduthalai Part 2.’ However, the buzz surrounding potential collaborations with Thalapathy Vijay, Ajith Kumar, and updates on ‘Vada Chennai’ remains in the realm of speculation with no concrete developments.

Vetrimaaran’s casual yet effective approach to filmmaking, evident in ‘Viduthalai Part 1,’ has intrigued audiences and industry insiders alike, making his future projects highly anticipated and awaited.
