Salaar’s Release Disruption: Multiplex Standoff and Implications for Prabhas Starrer

Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire,” the eagerly awaited pan-Indian film starring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, directed by Prashanth Neel of KGF fame, is slated for a December 22nd, 2023 release. However, the film has encountered a roadblock, particularly in Hindi-speaking regions, impacting its multiplex screening arrangements.

Multiplex Clash Impacting Salaar’s Screening

The imminent release of Shah Rukh Khan’s “Dunki” has stirred a theatre battle, prompting multiplex giants like PVR INOX and Miraj to dedicate all their screens solely to the SRK starrer, leaving no space for “Salaar” in North India. In response, the makers of “Salaar,” Hombale Films, took a decisive stance and opted out of screening their film not only in North India but also in South India’s PVR INOX and Miraj outlets due to perceived unfair treatment.

The Makers’ Stance and Potential Screen Count Adjustments

Chaluve Gowda, the Managing Director of Hombale Films, expressed firm resolve, emphasizing their decision to refrain from exhibiting “Salaar” in outlets where they felt unfairly treated. This move significantly affects the film’s anticipated screen count in India, previously expected to reach 6000. The reduction in multiplex chains, especially in South India, not only impacts the film’s revenue potential but also incurs substantial losses for exhibitors, highlighting the magnitude of “Salaar’s” significance in the cinematic landscape.

Insights into Salaar’s Plot and Future Prospects

“Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire” promises an action-drama narrative centered around the profound bond between two best friends, enacted by Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Set in the ominous terrains of Khansaar, the film unravels the challenges faced by newly crowned king Varadharaja Mannar (portrayed by Prithviraj Sukumaran) and his ally Deva (played by Prabhas) amidst adversities.

Additionally, discussions loom regarding the film’s future, hinted to be a two-part saga. Prithviraj Sukumaran revealed in an exclusive interview that the second part of “Salaar” is envisioned to be grander in scale and magnitude, a narrative expansion stemming from Prashanth Neel’s initial vision of a singular film.

The evolution from a single-story pitch to a two-part franchise underscores the immersive depth and vastness of the cinematic world crafted by director Prashanth Neel.
