In a heartwarming display of camaraderie, Deepika Padukone recently made an extended cameo appearance alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the film ‘Jawan.’ While her presence in the movie delighted fans, what’s even more heartening is the fact that she did not charge a single rupee for her role. Contrary to reports speculating a hefty fee for Deepika’s role in the Atlee directorial, the actress has now revealed her policy regarding cameo appearances – she does them out of pure passion.
Deepika’s commitment to her craft and the stories she chooses to be a part of shine through her cameo roles. She previously made brief appearances in films like ’83’ and ‘Cirkus,’ where she also chose not to charge a fee.
Explaining her motivation behind these cameo roles, Deepika said, “I wanted to be a part of ’83’ because I wanted it to be an ode to women who stand behind their husbands’ glory. I watched my mother do it. This was my homage to wives who make sacrifices to support their husbands’ careers. Other than that, any special appearance for Shah Rukh Khan, I am there. Same with Rohit Shetty.”
Deepika and Shah Rukh Khan’s relationship goes beyond the silver screen. She describes them as each other’s lucky charms, noting that they share a deep sense of ownership over each other. Their on-screen chemistry has been celebrated in Bollywood, and their collaborations have often resulted in box-office hits.
Their journey began with Farah Khan’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ in 2007, where Deepika made her Bollywood debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan. The film became a massive success, setting the stage for their continued collaboration. They reunited for a special song in ‘Billu’ (2009) before sharing the screen in ‘Chennai Express (2013), directed by Rohit Shetty, which also became a blockbuster. Their on-screen partnership continued with ‘Happy New Year,’ directed by Farah Khan.
Looking ahead, Deepika Padukone has an exciting lineup of projects in her pipeline. She is set to star alongside Hrithik Roshan and Anil Kapoor in ‘Fighter’ and is working on the highly anticipated ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ alongside Prabhas. Additionally, she will be seen in the Hindi remake of ‘The Intern,’ where she will share the screen with the legendary Amitabh Bachchan.
Deepika’s dedication to her craft and her enduring friendship with Shah Rukh Khan continue to make her a beloved figure in the world of Bollywood.
