CBI Awaits Response from Facebook and Google in Sushant Singh Rajput Death Case Investigation

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has provided an update on the investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, stating that it is still awaiting a response from Facebook and Google, two major social media platforms. The CBI had formally requested information from the companies regarding the late actor’s deleted chats, posts, and emails to gain a deeper understanding of the events leading up to his death on June 14, 2020. The agency believes that this deleted information could play a crucial role in bringing the case to a logical conclusion.

A CBI officer, speaking to Hindustan Times, revealed, “We are still waiting for a response from the US on this technical evidence, which may help us take the case to a logical conclusion. The case is pending finalization (because of this).”

In 2021, under the mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) between India and the US, the CBI had formally requested Google and Facebook, both headquartered in California, to share any details related to Sushant Singh Rajput’s deleted chats, emails, or posts. Such cooperation between the two countries enables access to information for domestic investigations.

However, Senior Advocate Vikas Singh, representing the actor’s family, expressed unawareness of the request made to US authorities. He also raised concerns about the CBI prolonging the case, stating, “CBI is trying to give a slow death (to the case).”

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also provided an update, confirming that the investigation is still ongoing, and the credibility of the evidence presented is being carefully examined. Fadnavis explained, “At first, the information available was based on hearsay. However, some individuals asserted that they possessed substantial evidence regarding the case. In response, we reached out to them and requested that they submit the evidence to the police.”

He further added, “Currently, we are in the process of examining the credibility of the presented evidence. The investigation is still in progress, and it would be premature for me to provide any comments on the eventual outcome of the case at this stage.”

Initially, the Mumbai Police, responsible for the initial investigation, did not find any evidence of foul play in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. However, the case was later transferred to the CBI, which has conducted investigations in various cities, including Aligarh, Faridabad, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Manesar, and Patna, gathering evidence and recording statements.

As the CBI awaits responses from Facebook and Google, the investigation into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case continues, with a focus on examining the credibility of the evidence and uncovering the truth behind the tragic incident that shook the nation.
