Brahmastra: Part One Shiva Box Office Figures Controversy Resurfaces as Film Analyst’s Video Goes Viral

The controversy surrounding the box office figures of Brahmastra: Part One Shiva has resurfaced as a video featuring film trade analyst Taran Adarsh goes viral on Reddit. In the video, Taran Adarsh speaks about a ‘big film’ that was released in September 2022, indirectly alluding to Brahmastra, directed by Ayan Mukerji and starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.

In the video, Taran Adarsh talks about the practice of creating a false narrative around box office collections. He mentions that producers often try to prove their film’s success by putting up posters with exaggerated numbers, but sometimes, they refrain from disclosing the actual nett figures. Adarsh shares an incident where he reached out to a distributor to inquire about the box office collections of a major film, but the producer requested not to disclose the figures.

Reddit users, speculating that the film in question is Brahmastra, expressed their views on the situation. One user suggested that the film’s reported success might have affected the decision to discontinue the planned sequels. Another user criticized Karan Johar, the producer of the film, for not owning up to its performance and playing the game of perception.

Brahmastra: Part One Shiva, released on September 9, 2022, marked the beginning of a new cinematic universe, known as The Astraverse, with ambitious plans for a trilogy. The film opened well at the box office, as reported by the makers, earning a staggering Rs 75 crores worldwide on its first day.

As the video of Taran Adarsh discussing the box office numbers gains traction on social media, it reignites debates about transparency in reporting box office collections and adds a new layer of discussion around the fate of the Brahmastra trilogy. Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor’s statement about taking a break from movies after his upcoming film Animal further fuels speculation about the future of the franchise.
