AP High Court Takes Cognizance of Complaints Against Bigg Boss Telugu for Alleged Obscenity

The popular Telugu reality show “Bigg Boss” has come under scrutiny for allegedly promoting obscenity in its broadcasts. Two concerned citizens from Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Ketireddy Jagadeeshwar Reddy and Mr. Gundala Shivaprasad have taken the matter to the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking a reevaluation of the show’s content and changes in its broadcast timings.

In the petition filed, the complainants expressed their deep concerns over the explicit content being telecasted on the show without any censorship. They pointed out that “Bigg Boss” is currently being aired from 11 PM to 5 AM, which, according to them, is an inappropriate time slot for such a program.

Senior Advocate Raghav Vadanala, representing the petitioners, stated that there is an urgent need for the court’s intervention to ensure responsible broadcasting of the show. He argued that airing a show like “Bigg Boss” during late hours is unsuitable for family viewing.

Adding to the concerns, Senior Advocate C.V. Mohan Reddy from Star India Private Limited and Advocate Akkineni Nageswara Rao from Endemol India Private Limited also conveyed their agreement with the petitioners. They asserted that the show should be subject to proper censorship before being broadcasted and that it should be left to the audience’s discretion to watch it.

Taking cognizance of the complaints, Justices Y. Durga Prasad and Justice Venkata Jyotirmayi issued a notice to Endemol India Private Limited, Star India Private Limited, Broadcasting Corporation of India, actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, and the Central Board of Film Certification, seeking their responses within four weeks.

The court emphasized that it would review the petitions and examine the necessity for changes in the broadcast schedule before passing any further orders.

This development has sparked a debate on the responsibilities of channels in airing programs that might have adult content. Should such shows be aired without proper censorship? The court’s intervention is awaited to address the concerns and decide on the validity of the pleas.

While the show enjoys a massive following, it remains to be seen how the Andhra Pradesh High Court will weigh the arguments and pass its judgment on this sensitive matter.
