Puri Jagannadh’s Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday starrer Liger was his pet project but the film failed to make a mark. The film was supposed to formally introduce Vijay to Bollywood and Ananya to south Indian cinema, but the lacklustre premise, lukewarm music and even the acting, failed to make the film a memorable fare. The Arjun Reddy star had announced a patriotic film titled JGM with Puri even before Liger was completed but rumours started doing rounds on social media that the film is now shelved. Not only did numerous fans request Vijay to not do the film with Puri, buzz was that the actor too believed the same after Liger failed to make a mark at the box office.
A source in the know said, “Puri and Vijay came to the decision amicably that now is not the right time to commence shooting for JGM. The film demands a massive budget and they were not in the mood to take such a risk so soon after Liger flopped. They realised it’s not the right time to undertake such a film now. However, the film is not shelved; it is just postponed to later. Vijay and Puri will definitely work together again once they’re both in a comfortable enough space to do so.”
Fans might heave a sigh of relief knowing that JGM has been postponed for now, given the kind of response Vijay got for Liger. However, they do look forward to see him in Shiva Nirvana’s Samantha Ruth Prabhu co-starrer Kushi
