Ram Gopal Varma Weighs in on Darshan Murder Case, Decries “Star Worship Syndrome”

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has made a striking commentary on the recent murder case involving Kannada superstar Darshan Thoogudeepa. In a series of tweets that garnered significant attention nationwide, RGV shared his perspective on the details emerging from the case.

Darshan Thoogudeepa, along with actress Pavitra Gowda, was apprehended in connection with the death of Renuka Swamy. Allegedly, Renuka Swamy had sent inappropriate messages to Pavitra Gowda, a close associate of Darshan.

Amidst the ongoing investigation, RGV expressed his thoughts on the matter, labelling it as a peculiar outcome of excessive idolisation of celebrities. In a tweet, RGV remarked, “A star using one die-hard fan to kill another die-hard fan who was interfering in his personal life is a fitting example of the bizarreness of the star worship syndrome… Fans wanting to order how their stars should run their lives is an unavoidable side effect of the same syndrome.”

Details of the Case: The victim’s body was discovered at Sumanahalli Bridge in Bengaluru on June 9th, 2024. According to reports, the victim sustained fatal injuries from an attack involving a wooden log. It’s alleged that the perpetrators had intended to dispose of the body in the Vrishabhavathi valley but encountered complications when it became stuck, attracting the attention of stray dogs.
