Global icon and Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra has lauded the recent passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in India, emphasizing the need for its rapid implementation. This statement from Priyanka Chopra follows the Opposition Congress party’s demand for the immediate enforcement of the bill.
The Women’s Reservation Bill received unanimous approval in the Rajya Sabha last Thursday, a day after it was passed in the Lok Sabha during a Special Session of the Parliament. With this milestone, a significant development has taken place, ensuring 33 percent reservation for women in the Lower House and State Assemblies. However, this landmark achievement is contingent on subsequent steps involving the census and delimitation.Taking to Instagram Stories, Priyanka Chopra expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Inspiring a new age with this historic milestone. The passing of the women’s reservation bill – ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ is indeed a step in the right direction, but the crucial next phase is its swift and effective implementation. Here’s to an India that truly supports and empowers its women.”
Notably, Congress leader and Member of Parliament, Rahul Gandhi, raised concerns about the timeline for implementation, stating, “Women’s Reservation is a central step in the empowerment of the women of India, and it is a critical step. But when we read the fine print, we found something very interesting, two little subtexts were there—number one, this will be done after delimitation; number two, this will be done after the census. What it means is that this bill will be implemented a decade from now.”As India eagerly awaits the transformative impact of this bill, Priyanka Chopra continues to make her mark both in the entertainment industry and as a vocal advocate for women’s rights. Her upcoming project, ‘Heads of State,’ promises to add to her impressive body of work.
